What Are the Penalties for a First-Time DUI in Arizona?

If you are pulled over and found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, you could face very harsh penalties—even if you have never been pulled over or arrested before.

The penalties for a first-time DUI in Arizona include:

  • Jail time of no less than 10 consecutive days (9 of which may be suspended if you successfully complete a drug/alcohol program, attend an alcohol screening, and pay a minimum fine of approximately $2,150)
  • Up to but no more than six months in jail
  • Driver’s license suspension of up to 90 days
  • Mandatory attendance at an alcohol/drug treatment program
  • Mandatory community service
  • An ignition interlock device installed on your vehicle
  • Probation

In addition to these penalties, you may have to pay additional fees for your attendance at a drug/alcohol treatment program, alcohol screening, and more. The penalties for a first-time DUI can threaten not only your physical freedom and ability to drive yourself to work, school, etc., but they can also result in social consequences as well. Criminal records are public and can be accessed by any employer, potential future employer, university, landlord, lender, or anyone else. A DUI conviction could ultimately threaten your ability to secure work, housing, education, and more.
