Mesa Commercial DUI Lawyer

Mesa Criminal Defense Attorney

Drivers of commercial vehicles must meet strict requirements in order to earn a commercial driver’s license (CDL). To remain in good standing, commercial drivers are also held to strict standards while out on the road. This can be especially true when it comes to driving under the influence (DUI). Normally, a driver cannot operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08% or more. Commercial drivers, however, cannot have a BAC of .04% or higher. If you have been charged with a DUI while on or off the job and you hold a CDL, your driving privileges, as well as your job, may be at risk. Let our Mesa criminal defense attorneys work to clear your name so you can move forward with your career.

Penalties for CDL DUI

DUI offenses are handled on a case-by-case basis and penalties can be influenced by factors such as a driver’s BAC and any past DUI convictions. Drivers with a BAC of between .04% and .15% can be facing punishments of 3 months in jail and $3,000 in fines. Drivers with a BAC of .15% or higher may be facing 120 days in jail and a fine of at least $3,250. Additionally, those convicted of DUI are subject to a license suspension for a period of at least 12 months. Convictions for multiple offenses may lead to the permanent revocation of your CDL.

Along with other traffic-related and moving violations, a DUI must be reported to your employer within 30 days. This is true whether an offense occurred while on the job or while you were off the clock and in your own personal vehicle. A conviction can threaten your current and future employment opportunities as a DUI will likely show up on your criminal record and employment history.
